BACK TO SCHOOL by alkhaledi

The first day of school can be a bit scary. Students will feel anxious about the new classroom, meeting the new teacher, reuniting with old friends, and the pressure of making new friends. Why not make that first day a little less stressful with a good back to school book and reading activity? Here are some great book choices for primary grade students beginning the new school year.

1. Don't Be Silly, Mrs. Millie! By Judy Cox: (PreK-2nd) In this book the kindergarten teacher Mrs. Millie makes her students laugh when she mixes up some of her words for other words that rhyme (goats for coats) or words that are slightly different (poodle for puddle). This book is sure to get a few giggles from your students. Think about adding on to the book by playing a “catch me” game where students look for times to correct their new teacher.

2. First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg: (K-3rd) Sarah Jane is afraid to go to school and the surprise ending is that Sarah Jane is actually the classroom's new teacher and not a student. This is a very cute book with an ending that will bring a few smiles. After reading this book have your students talk about their own first day jitters.

3. Brand-New Pencils, Brand-New Books by Diane Degroat: (PreK-1st) Gilbert the hedgehog is scared about beginning the first grade. Throughout the day he discovers many pleasant surprises however. This book has nice water color illustrations and will appeal to younger children. Talk about some of the interesting and fun things the students will get to do over the next week. Then have them draw a picture of something they are looking forward to doing this new school year.

4. Meet the Barkers: Morgan and Moffat Go to School by Tomie De Paola: (PreK-2nd) This book is about a pair of twin dogs named Morgan and Moffat. Moffat is quite bossy on her first day, as well as competitive which earns her plenty of gold stars but no friends. Morgan is more laid back and makes plenty of friends, but doesn't really stand out in the classroom. In the end Moffat and Morgan learn from each other on the proper ways to behave and shine at school.

5. Mrs. Watson Wants Your Teeth by Alison McGhee: (K-2nd) This book is about a first grader who is frightened about the first day of school because of a rumor she heard from a second grader about her new teacher. The rumor is that this teacher is a 300 year old alien that steals baby teeth from all of her students. On her first day the tension mounts as the day progresses. The frightened first grader keeps quiet to hide her wobbly tooth for her alien teacher. After reading the book, get the students to talk about any of the rumors they might have heard about you. Dispel or affirm those rumors and elaborate on who you are as a teacher and a person. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the classroom.

6. Enrico Starts School by Charlotte Middleton: (PreK-2nd) This book is about a five year old cat that is starting school and doesn't know how to make friends. He doesn't do so well at first but soon discovers that being himself goes a long way in finding new friends. The book has short, simple sentences that are great for younger children going to school. It also teaches children to stay true to themselves. Shortly after finishing the book you could get the students involved in a “making new friends” or “icebreaker” activity so that classmates get to know each other a little better.

7. Suki's Kimono by Chieri Uegaki: (K-3rd) A little girl named Suki decides to wear her favorite kimono on the first day of school that reminds her of her grandmother. She doesn't care what others think about her different look. This book celebrates being different, something teachers should encourage their students to understand and embrace. Also a great choice for teachers wanting to introduce other cultures into the classroom. You could have your students talk a little bit out their unique cultures and personalities after reading the book.

8. David Goes to School by David Shannon: (K-3rd) In this story a little boy named David wreaks havoc on his first day of school. He makes a huge mess, breaks plenty of rules, and just acts really bad. By the end of the book David stays after school to clean up his mess and make up for all of that bad behavior. David ends up with a gold star for his end-of-the-day attitude adjustment. You could use this book to show your students what they shouldn't do and as a reference to create this year's classroom rules.

9. My Teacher Sleeps in School by Leatie Weiss: (K-3rd) The students see their teacher Mrs. Marsh in her classroom all the time. They see her before they arrive for class and she always stays after they go home. One student named Mollie is sure that her teacher lives at school. The class sets out to prove that their teacher sleeps in school. In the end the students are surprised when they find that Mrs. Marsh leaves school to go home to a house that looks a lot like theirs. This book can reinforce the idea that a teacher is also a real person and has a life outside of school just his or her students. Get the students to think of other things they might have in common with their new teacher.

10. Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes: (PreK-2nd) Chrysanthemum the mouse has always been proud of her name, until the first day of kindergarten when she finds herself surrounded by strange new names like Bill and Sam. Some children tease Chrysanthemum about her strange and very long name, sending her home in tears. But the teacher also has a strange name, and she plans to name her expected baby after the prettiest name she's heard so far, Chrysanthemum. This is a great book to teach young children how to behave respectfully and with kindness towards others. You could also have students compare their names with Chrysanthemum's. Make a class bar graph showing the length of each students names.

11. How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Marc Teague: (PreK-2nd) This is a great book to transition children from the lazy summer break to the new school year. A little boy tells the class all about this fantasy vacation out west, where he was kidnapped by cowboys and learns to rope, ride, and build fires. He continues on with this fun summer story. You could encourage your students to talk about their own summer vacation stories. You could even have them participate in a creative writing assignment where they make up their own fantasy summer vacation just like the character in the book.

12. Get Ready For Second Grade, Amber Brown by Paula Danziger: (1st-3rd) Amber brown is excited about the new school year, but she's also nervous about her new teacher and the mean girl in glass Hannah Burton. Things turn out just fine even with Hannah in the same class. You could talk about polite behavior and your classroom expectations after reading this book. Bullying in your classroom should not be accepted.

13. It's Back to School We Go by Ellen Jackson: (1st-3rd) In this book the first day of school is described for children from eleven different countries (Kenya, Kazakhstan, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, Peru, Germany, India, Russia, and the United States). First person accounts are given to capture the similarities and differences among the children from all of these places around the globe. The commonality is that all of the children are eager and ready to learn on their first day to school. This would be a great book to use on the first day as a lead into social studies. Have the students talk about where they are from or where they were born. Get a map out to pinpoint all of these locations.

14. The Teacher from the Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler: (PreK-2nd) This book is about a boy who dreams that his teacher Mrs. Green is a horrible monster. When he wakes up and sees the real Mrs. Green he is so happy that he runs to hug her. This is a very amusing little story that can make children more comfortable about their own fears about a new teacher on the first day of school. After the story, have the students discuss why the little boy imagined his teacher being a monster, and how the real Mrs. Green differed from the monster teacher he dreamed about.

15. How Do Dinosaurs Go To School by Jane Yolen: (PreK-2nd) This is a great book to use to introduce younger students into your science class. The dinosaurs in this book will delight readers with their silly behavior and excitement for their big day at school. All of the dinosaurs found in the book are identified on the endpapers. Read this book aloud to your students and have them talk about how those dinosaurs are similar and different from children that have to go back to school. They could also talk about the dinosaurs they discovered during the story. Have students come up with their own dinosaur names. They should create names that say something about themselves (ballerinasaurus, sillysaurus, purplesaurus, etc.).

Buy what you need for the first day of school but don’t buy too much for the rest of the year. Some items, such as pencils and pens, might be useful to stock up on if there is a great sale. But since many stores overstock on items, you may actually be able to find some bargains by scanning for sales after the back to school rush is over.

Amateur and Olympic sports showcase the most passionate desires of athletes around the world. These athletic endeavors involve hard work, dedication, and perseverance. American amateur and Olympic athletes truly embody the concept of the American Dream. Although it may be hard to believe, these athletes have had to overcome difficult challenges in the past in order to compete in their beloved sport. As the problems of American amateur athletics escalated in the mid 1970's, Gerald Ford issued the President's Commission on Olympic Sports. The report analyzed the atmosphere surrounding amateur sports in America, and searched for a potential solution. This report resulted in the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978 which created cataclysmic change in American amateur sports over the last three decades.

A quick look at the history of Amateur sports in America shows the prominence of two major organizations; the AAU and the NCAA. The AAU resembles a club sport system which is utilized in most countries around the world. In the club sport system, athletes typically join a local club sports team. This system is independent of school related sports and usually takes place after school and on weekends. The United States is the pretty much the only country that has had a school related sports system as successful as the NCAA. The NCAA is something that is very unique to America and it meshes both academics and athletics. These two organizations were both developing into very strong organizations in the mid 1900's, but neither had total control over amateur athletic sports in America. That is where the problem began.

A heated battle between the AAU and the NCAA started to flare up in the 1960's and 1970's. Both organizations wanted to be the official liaison for governing amateur sports in America. In some sports, the AAU was better positioned, while the NCAA held the edge in other sports. The two organizations battled back and forth for control and the athletes were the ones that suffered most. The NCAA would restrict AAU competitors from their national championship competition and the AAU would turn around and do the same (Moore 60). This behavior was not in the nature of amateur sport and certainly did not cultivate the truest form of competition. This became such a big problem that Gerald Ford proposed the President's Commission on Olympic Sports in 1975 (Moore 61). The two year investigation intensely examined rights of athletes and the roles that the NCAA and AAU were currently playing. After the completion of the investigation, the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978was enacted.

The Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978 laid out the rules and regulations that shaped amateur sports in the United States from that year forward. In this act, the United States government chartered a monopoly to the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) to head all Olympic and international sport relations. Additionally, the act instituted that each sport showcased in the Olympic Games shall have a governing body that is registered as a 501 c (3) nonprofit institution (Amateur & Olympic Sports Act). This is a fine example of the government assigning responsibility to the nonprofit sector which Stephen Goldsmith and William D. Eggers refer to as “governing by network.â€

The United States Olympic Committee is a nonprofit institution whose mission is, “To support Olympic and Paralympic athletes in achieving sustained competitive excellence and preserve the Olympic ideals, and thereby inspire all Americans” (US Olympic Team). The USOC acts as a headquarters for all American amateur and Olympic sports. They are the designated organization that is to deal with the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti Doping Agency, and all other world sport organizations. The hope was to have one nonprofit organization that would be in charge of all international amateur sport relations, rather than two fighting with their own desires.

As mentioned earlier, each Olympic sport has a national governing body. These nonprofit institutions have roles that are spelled out for them in the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act. Each national governing body is responsible for establishing national goals for the sport and serves as the coordinating body for that sport in the United States. This includes conducting competitions, selecting and fielding teams to represent the United States in international competition; and providing coaching and training for the athletes of their sport. Additionally, these national governing bodies aim to develop an interest in their sport in the United States and encourage participation by women in their sport (Amateur & Olympic Sports Act). Both national governing bodies and the USOC are 501 c (3) nonprofit institutions that focus on the betterment of amateur sports in America. Additionally, these organizations are designed to showcase America's amateur athletes and provide inspiration to all Americans. Therefore, monetary gifts to these organizations are tax deductible.

This leads to a discussion of the legal and regulatory constraints in amateur sports in the United States. The Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978 outlined the guidelines to be followed in the United States in regards to amateur sports. It established the USOC as the head governing body of amateur sports, and created national governing bodies to govern each individual sport (Amateur & Olympic Sports Act). Each institution in this system answers or reports to someone and must comply with other organizations. This structure allows for checks and balances within the amateur sports world. No one single organization has the complete total control over what is said and done in a sport. Everyone gets their say, but they must comply with some rules and regulations from other agencies along the way.

The USOC is required to file a report to the United States government every four years detailing their accomplishments, expenditures, and data concerning the steps take to encourage women and disabled athletes (Amateur & Olympic Sports Act). Additionally, this report is to be made available to the public. The USOC must also comply with the International Olympic Committee, and the World Anti Doping Agency. National governing bodies have freedom to operate on their own, but they are closely watched by the USOC. These national governing bodies must also comply with world governing agencies of their sport. The actions of national governing bodies are also closely kept in line by the eye of the public. There is a section of the Olympic & Amateur Sports Act that states that national governing bodies of sport can be replaced by other agencies if they do not perform in a satisfactory manner. Finally, all amateur and Olympic sport agencies must comply with the guidelines and regulations that were outlined in the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978.

There are thirty-nine national governing bodies of sport in the United States. Thirty-one of these national governing bodies govern Summer Olympic sports while eight govern Winter Olympic sports (US Olympic Team). While these national governing bodies are independent nonprofit institutions, they must also report to the USOC. In turn, the USOC provides financial support to both the national governing bodies and individual athletes. During 2004, the year of the Summer Olympics in Athens, the USOC gave $50 million to national governing bodies in the form of member support. This member support includes financial assistance to athletes, and grants to national governing bodies for support and oversight. Also in 2004, the USOC dispersed $4 million to send United States competitors and coaches to international competitions. Finally, $23 million was spent on Olympic training centers in the form of room and board for athletes, training facilities, coaching, and sports medicine (United States Olympic Committee).

While the USOC makes an ample effort to aid and provide oversight to the national governing bodies and the athletes that compete for them, these national governing bodies are still independent organizations. Some national governing bodies are extremely organized business like organizations while others appear unorganized, lack revenue streams, and do not have enough money to support their operations year round. This is clearly evident when one looks at the budgets of each national governing body. Some national governing bodies get a small 4.5% of their annual funding from the USOC. Yet, others are heavily dependent on the USOC, receiving over 70% of their annual budget from these grants (Borzilleri).

A quick look at two national governing bodies will reveal how much difference there can actually be between national governing bodies of sport. The USATF (United States Track & Field) is an Indianapolis based nonprofit that is the governing body of Track & Field and long distance running. They are one of the more successful national governing bodies of sport in the United States. The USATF has doubled its revenue since 1997 and become much more involved in the community (USA Track & Field). One of the main reasons the USATF is so successful is because they have very little expenses in training and developing their athletes. The NCAA acts as a feeder system and four year training school for most of the USATF athletes. Additionally, most USATF athletes train at colleges, or local tracks. Since the USATF does not have to focus on training their athletes, they can focus on other business ventures. Because of their organized business like structure, they are able to focus on finding sponsors and partners, serving their 100,000 members, and creating additional revenue streams (Greer). This allows the USATF to focus additional revenue streams and become less dependent on the USOC grants.

The USBSF (United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation) is the governing body of bobsledding, and skeleton. Typically, Winter Olympic sports have a much more difficult time with supporting their sport. The following in the United States is low and Winter Olympic sports are often much more expensive than Summer Olympic sports. That is certainly the case in this instance. The USBSF is a national governing body does not have many partnerships, sponsors, or revenue streams. However, the sport is very expensive. For instance, the bobsled track at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino cost $83 million to construct (Clarey). In addition to high facility and equipment costs, the USBSF has a high cost of developing athletes. In order to conduct proper training, the USBSF pays for housing, meals, and travel expenses of its athletes while at the training center. Because the cost is so great, the USBSF typically only conducts training five to seven months out of the year (Kummer). The USBSF is a prime example of a national governing body that does not have many sponsors, and is heavily reliant on funding from the USOC.

A major concern for the smaller and less developed national governing bodies has been the influence that the USOC has over their operations. In the past year, the USOC has undergone studies on each national governing body in terms of their management structure, operational efficiency, and potential to generate revenue. Based on those reports, the USOC board made decisions to withhold or cut funding from certain governing bodies (Borzilleri). The USBSF was one of the national governing bodies that received a cut in their annual budget. In order to deal with this budge cut, the USBSF had to cut three weeks out of their funded athlete training schedule (Sprague). Needless to say, these smaller national governing bodies that do not generate much revenue may be under the greatest scrutiny and have the most pressure of any type of amateur sports organization.

There are a lot of major challenges set before the amateur and Olympic sports agencies in America. One of the biggest challenges is defining what the role of each organization is in relation to the bigger whole. One of the first questions needed to be answered is; “Should the USOC simply be a fundraiser that supports these national governing bodies of sport, or should the USOC be the head agency for dealing with amateur sports that has many different smaller departments?†Finding answer to this question will allow for a healthier development of amateur sports in America in the future.

A second situation that needs to be addressed is the treatment of sports and national governing bodies that do not generate much revenue. Some of these sports may be able to be turned into revenue generating organizations with management changes. However, some of these sports are likely to have very little financial success. Does America want to keep funding these sports even though they may be costly and bring in very little revenue? Deciding how to treat these sports and their national governing bodies will be a challenge for the USOC and amateur sports in America.

The overall effect of the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978 has been very good for amateur sports in America. The power struggle between the NCAA and the AAU has been subdued and amateur sports organizations have proven to be more successful when working together. The system that is currently used is much more efficient and has been very productive in its existence over the past three decades. The United States has continued to win more and more medals than ever at the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. In the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics, the United States won 109 total medals, which was 39 more medals than China; the country with the second most medals. In the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, the United States won more medals than they ever have at a Winter Olympics with 25 medals. This was second behind Germany, who had 29 medals (US Olympic Team).

As defined by the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the role of the USOC, and the national governing bodies is to promote amateur athletics, increase awareness of amateur athletics, and in turn inspire all Americans. It seems that this new system of governing amateur Olympic sports in America has done just what it was intended to do. The system is not perfect, and will continue to be molded and shaped with time as new needs develop. As the role of each institution begins to become more clear in the future, the United States will see even greater progress in the development of their amateur sports programs. The constant refining and tweaking of this process is what will allow the United States to continue to develop medal winners at the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

I was reading the news on Google this morning when I saw an article saying that the Obama administration accused the Fox network of being part of the republican party. I guess we need a law now stating that you cannot disagree with the administration? No, but that is exactly how this sort of thing happens….read on for a little slice of truth and what you can do.

This would be one of the funniest stories to come out of the new administration yet, if it wasn't so damn scary. This is how our rights are eroded, little by little. Talk about killing the messenger. Why haven't ABC, NBC and CBS been admonished for their strong ties to the liberals? Wasn't it Dan Rather that had to resign his desk for using bogus documents to try and bring down Bush? Don't get me wrong…I think that Obama is trying to do what is right with health care. Too bad he doesn't see the real problem. If you want to get a handle on health care in America, you have to DESTROY the health insurance industry instead of giving them a monopoly on government subsidies for the next ten years. The doctors have long tried to get the actual costs of care by billing more, in return the insurance companies charge more and we are stuck in a cycle of skyrocketing prices. If we had no insurance companies we would get charged twelve cents for an aspirin instead of six dollars and seventy five cents. This is true for everything related to health care.

Critics will say that if you cut the profit from health care, then no new drugs or treatments would ever be developed. Really? Did Louis Pasteur develop pasteurization for the money? How many other examples are out there I could list? Hundreds. It wasn't until the modern age that treatment became entwined with profit. In fact, doctors these days are more likely to give you a new drug that doesn't work half as well as an old one because they are in the pockets of the drug companies. Mentioning drug companies, did you know that every year the NIH (National Institute of Health) spends billions on health care research. This money goes to develop drugs and treatments that once they are perfected and approved by the FDA, they are turned over to private enterprise. For example, say Pfizer wants to find a new AIDS drug, they throw in a couple of million, the NIH throws in a couple of Billion on top and Pfizer comes out the winner, not the tax payer who funded the majority of the research. If the money spent by the NIH was to be spent on preventative care, illness in America would cease to be a problem. By the way, if you think there aren't death panels already, then you know nothing of the health care industry….

If you truly wanted to keep privatized care, then fund the insurance through the government. Do away with all private health care insurance. Give every American a yearly preventative screening, if they eat right, exercise etc…then they pay no premium. If they smoke, drink and drug then bill them according to their habits and their age. Problem solved. The reason we cannot get government funded health care is that the doctors, hospitals and drug companies just don't want to give up their profit on our misery. A case in point, Tenn-care, Tennessee's attempt at Hillary care. When the Clinton's tried to revamp health care in the nineties, Tennessee jumped right in to prove it could work. What they didn't do was to hire their own doctors, had they done that, they could have made it work instead of almost breaking the state's economy. What they did do is to threaten doctors not to diagnose any condition that could be related to smoking. The state reaped billions in tobacco money that it wasn't about to use on anyone who was actually harmed by it….typical eh?

America, The only country in the world where profiting off of other peoples misery isn't only legal, it's encouraged. If the founding fathers had had a crystal ball they would have done allot of things differently. They were smart enough to separate us from religious overlords. They were smart enough to separate the powers of government. What they weren't smart enough to do was to ban lobbyists, they weren't smart enough to bridle democracy. They thought that they created a confederation of “free and independent states” but they were not smart enough to see that the system they created could be bogged down in two hundred years worth of bureaucratic bull**** that has been piled on top of the Constitution. Obama campaigned on a platform for change, what he didn't realize was that no president, no matter how powerful or popular can turn the tide of greed.

Health care is just one of the many problems facing the average American these days. The national debt has turned a once prosperous nation into a debtor nation. How did that happen? Well let me count the ways…. If you look in one of your kids history books, look up why we fought the American Revolution, it will fill your head with bull about taxes on tea. This is a load of crap. Before the Revolution, the money supply in the colonies was restricted. In order to fix the problem, the colonies issued what they called “colonial script” which was a debt free issue that allowed trade. This was a problem for the English Bankers, so they had King George III outlaw interest free colonial script forcing the colonies to borrow from the Bank of England at interest.

Benjamin Franklin was quoted as saying, “The refusal of King George III to allow the Colonies to operate an honest money system, which freed the ordinary man from the clutches of the money manipulators, was probably the prime cause of the Revolution.” Once the revolution succeeded, the founding fathers didn't go far enough to prevent us from falling into the clutches of a “central bank.” Franklin understood the dangers of debt, he once said, “It is better to go to bed hungry than to wake up in debt.” Before King George III passed this law, there was no unemployment and little crime in the colonies, within a year after it passed, unemployment skyrocketed and crime was rampant. Look up Benjamin Franklin's thoughts on central banking.

So, what is a “central bank” and why does it keep us in debt? A central bank such as the “Federal Reserve” is a PRIVATE institution, not part of the government. When the government needs money, they borrow it from the “Fed” at interest by issuing bonds. By manipulating these bonds, they can control the money supply. The real secret is that for every dollar issued, we create more debt. If the United States Government were to ever pay off this debt, they would effectively destroy the currency because there would be no bonds to back the currency. I know, complicated isn't it. This article is way to short to explain the system in it's entirety, but if your curious, I suggest you read more about it. This is your country and this system keeps us ALL IN DEBT PERPETUALLY….

Next after health care and debt is lobbyists and the LAW….Not too long ago I was looking into the laws governing utilities. Why I was looking into it is a whole other article…. Anyway, I was reading the Tennessee Code Annotated, which is the set of books in Tennessee with all of our laws etc… This was a horrifying experience because of what I found. I used to own a Tennessee Code Annotated from the late 1800's. This law book was full of laws protecting the people. The new set is full of laws protecting the corporations from the people. What has happened here? Consider the recent changes to the bankruptcy laws, it used to be that the only two things that you could not exclude from bankruptcy was student loans and taxes. Now you are no longer allowed to exclude credit card debt. How is it that an industry which preys on the weak is protected by the government from us? I have said it before and I will say it again, “WHAT IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS ISN'T ALWAYS GOOD FOR THE PEOPLE!!!”

Now, the last big iron ball around our necks, TAXES. First, I must say that the Federal Income Tax is an ILLEGAL TAX ON AMERICANS. Bring that argument up in court and you will be shown the 16th amendment to the constitution. In 1913, the sixteenth amendment was passed in the congress of the United States, however, it was not law until it was ratified by the states. IT WAS NEVER RATIFIED, Secretary of State Philander Knox fraudulently announced ratification. Now, if you know anything about the constitution you would know that there is no time limit on ratification. If the government wanted to make the federal income tax a legal tax, they could go back to the states and have it ratified. They wont do this because to do so would admit that they have been illegally taxing you, your parents, your grandparents and your great-grandparents since 1913. Thomas Jefferson said that the people shouldn't fear their government, the government should fear the people. They no longer fear us, that is why our soldiers are trained to fight us as well as our enemies. I could write a whole article on why we are truly despised by the rest of the world….but that will wait, unless they jail me for this one….

This alone is not the entire problem with taxes. Not long ago there was a college of economics that offered a ten thousand dollar prize for anyone who could figure out how many taxes were on a loaf of bread. No one was able to collect because it cannot be done. We need a new tax system, one that doesn't unfairly tax the poor. If you ask an economist about this he will tell you that if you line a group of people up representing the poorest with the richest, you would go through over fifty percent of the line before you collected one cent in taxes. This is a lie….yes, when you are talking federal income tax, this is sort of true. It's the hidden taxes that get the poor, like the tax on bread. When you buy a loaf of bread, you are paying a tax on the tractor that harvested the wheat. The tax on the seed. The tax on the fuel for the tractor. The tax on the property the wheat was grown on. The tax on the wages of the guy driving the tractor. The tax on the driver to get the wheat to processing. The tax on the truck that took it to processing. The tax on the fuel in the truck. The tax on the processing plants land. The tax on the guy running the machines at the processing plant. The tax on the machines that process the wheat. The tax on the guy who takes the wheat to the bakery……..I could go on and fill an entire novel with the taxes just on a loaf of bread.

Now that we have established what is really wrong, what can YOU DO. Well, I have always said that Americans will never revolt because the poorest of the poor are housed and fed. Because they are entertained by mindless crap through the greatest mind controller in history, your television. Yes, there are homeless out there, but most of them either have mental or addiction problems. If they were to revolt, who would listen? The only people who can save America are the lower to middle class and if you haven't noticed, the middle class is slipping fast. We must give the government an ultimatum, a time limit, a list of things we demand and a time frame to provide them. So, what should we ask for?

First, an absolute ban on lobbyists, with bribes, sweetheart deals and impropriety considered treason and dealt with like treason should be dealt with, i.e hanging.
Second, no house or senate member could be elected if he/she makes more than fifty thousand a year, get the people in office instead of the corporations, with NO LOOPHOLES, we need working class people making laws for working class people
Third, universal health care for all, unconditional of course.
Fourth, the absolute destruction of the central banking system with congress issuing debt free currency.
Fifth, disembowel the Internal Revenue Service
Sixth, truth in all money transactions, no posting future revenue as profits or other schemes
Seventh, one man one vote, no more electoral college to cheat the voters
Eighth, the right of states to make their own laws reinstated, no federal government interfering with states rights
Ninth, trashing and revamping of all laws on the books, protect the people from the corporations instead of protecting them from us.
Tenth, Limit profits on necessities such as food
Eleventh, the American people paid for the infrastructure, no charge for water or electricity to residential customers.
Twelfth, put teeth back in the monopoly laws, today one man may sit on as many as thirty boards
Thirteen, if you want to sell to the American public, then 30% of all product must be produced in America or you will pay an import tax to equalize trade
Fourteen, no product made with slave labor (that means you China) could be sold in America
Fifteen, TAX THE HELL OUT OF THE SUPER RICH, use the money to improve schools
Sixteen, Teach children to their strengths and quit wasting time, the current system doesn't work
Seventeen, Legalize drugs, tax the crap out of them and use the money for prevention and rehabilitation (over 50% of the prisoners in American jails are non-violent drug offenders) the system works, when you take away the thrill of doing something illegal and make it look pitiful, you no longer entice your children
Eighteen, let the people decide, not me, not the government, they decide these things now without our consent our approval, in fact, it should be up to each “free and independent state” just like the constitution said, before they neutered it….

How do we get the government to give us what we want, well, we pick a day. Say, January the First 2010, if they don't relinquish the power and give it back to the people. First, we no longer pay any taxes. We no longer give the government any money for registering our cars, tags, except when the tax is built in for food etc. Second, we buy nothing we don't need, we kill the economy. Third, we pay no mortgages, no car loans, nothing, we break the banks. Fourth, we take authority away from law enforcement, non-violent resistance, they arrest you for whatever, you stay in jail, make them feed you, soon they will not be able to keep us all. Fifth, we talk to our servicemen and women, they are all our sisters, brothers, sons, daughters. If we use non-violent resistance to the powers that be, the military wont turn on us. I once thought it was possible to use the vote to change things, I now see that it is not possible. I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't put a price on my own head by writing this, if so, then so be it…..If you support a free America for Americans. If you support a government of the people, for the people by the people, then you can show it. It will not be easy, no change has ever been made without sacrifice. One last note, if you don't believe anything I have said, read your history. Not the books from your kids schools either, they are full of misrepresentations and flat out lies. The election of Obama is proof that the current system cannot be changed unless the people stand up and say, we are not going to take it anymore. I wasn't thrilled with Obama as a choice for President, yet, when he won, he became our President. Now he is learning that the job is a token, there is no real power in it unless you want to bomb the crap out of something. Read some real history and act upon it, the truth can set us all free….If you think you are free now, leave the house without your papers…. funny, thats what they told us about the U.S.S.R when I was in school, our police no longer serve and protect, they harass and accuse, damn what a world….good luck and if you read this far, thanks for listening to my rant, I had to get it out, God bless you

I gotta admit, going to work on a bright, sunny summer day is depressing. You walk into the office and find everyone complaining about how if it wasn't for work, they would all be out on the beach or with the kids somewhere outdoors. Needless to say, you're grouchy about it too, and you feel like you've been beaten out of bed to get there. Sound familiar? Or are you more of the type who are drained out of energy as soon as they get out of bed?

I know I fall into the second category on most days. Like most other people, I put lack of sleep as an excuse to my fatigue. But after many trials on extending my sleep time, I found out that this fatigue was due to going to bed and waking up at inappropriate times for my body. Once I corrected the issue, to where I would fall asleep around 12am and wake up around 7am, I became fully energetic and ready to successfully finish all of my day's work!

There are, however, several different reasons to why people become fatigued throughout the day. Usually, the cause of the problem is very simple to solve or eliminate, so simple that you may have never even noticed it before!

Morning Fatigue: You know, when you're so exhausted that you feel like you've just been hit by a train?
- Turn off the news! It's hard enough to be energetic when you're thinking about the 1286985750 things that you have to do before the day ends, give your brain a break. You don't need more problems than you already have, do you? Turn the dial to a funny talk-show, or calming music. Laughing will actually release hormones that counteract your stress hormones, while music will soothe and calm you down.
- Have a better breakfast. Did you know that high-carb and sugary foods will actually fatigue you rather than energize you? Ditch the doughnuts and coffee, go for whole grain cereal and fruit, or peanut butter and bananas or strawberries on whole-wheat bread.

Noon – Afternoon Fatigue: The busiest time of the day.
- Avoid the sugar buzz. I take it you know that sugar is a bad source of energy? Yes, exactly, because it gives you a sudden boost of energy then crashes as soon as the sugar exists your bloodstream, which only takes some couple of minutes. After the boost, that crash will make you feel even more tired than before. A vicious cycle! If you must have something sweet, go for something light and healthy such as a fruit salad (without whipped cream and nuts) or a cup of fruit yogurt. The sugar in such food items isn't very high, so you'll fulfill your hunger and avoid the horrible sugar rush and crash. Additionally, the benefits that come from fruits and yogurt (such as vitamins, calcium, iron, etc.) definitely justify the cause, so you won't feel guilty afterward.
- A walk to remember. Take a break from the work area, change scenery and go for a relaxing walk. Walking as an exercise will boost your energy, and getting away from the huff and puff at your workplace will clear your mind. It's also good to get some fresh air every now and then. If you take a buddy or significant other along, avoid talking about work or any other stressful topics; light conversations will cheer you up instead.

Evening Fatigue: Kids yelling, mom cleaning, dad fixing the sink.
- Rest those feet. You're happy when your feet are happy. Try it. When you come home from work, take off your shoes and soak your feet in as-warm-as-you-can-stand-without-burning-yourself water for 10 minutes. As soon as your time is up, quickly dip them in cool water for about 5 minutes. You'll feel as if the world has stopped for 15 minutes and gone back to revolving at a much slower pace.
- Shower! And wash your hair too.You'll feel like you've just washed away all of the day's worry and exhaustion.
- Soft lights. Dim the lights a bit. This won't necessarily energize you, but it'll help you relieve stress and negative thoughts that may fatigue you. Bright lights keep you alert and keep your body from realizing that it's night and time to rest. Dimming the lights will help you calm down, especially as the night goes on and you prepare to go to bed.

Finally, make sure to sleep well and adjust an appropriate sleeping pattern for yourself. Also, avoid watching anything violent or anything that may stimulate your thinking before going to bed. Of course, if you have persistent fatigue, you may want to talk to your doctor for inspection of possible illnesses that may be the cause.

I Cant Wait For Summer

National Dairy Month was started in 1938, to promote the consumption of dairy during spring when the cows produce more milk. These days with higher quality feed available, the surplus is less noticeable. It's still important to appreciate and support our nations dairy farmers.

Here is a lesson plan, to help introduce dairy month to your students. In this lesson students will learn:
the importance of dairy in a nutritious diet
the steps for producing milk from cow to their home
safe handling of milk
describe characteristics of cows
dairy foods that contain calcium and are dairy

Monday

Tuesday

A good game that will also strengthen math skills is available from the PBS website. You will need to prepare these in advance for the children, or do it as an exercise the day before. It is a stacking cow game that makes use of numbered cars that tell them how many cows to stack.

Wednesday
Milking the cow
Use a latex glove to show the children how cows are milked by hand. Use a needle to prick each finger of the glove. Fill the glove with water and show the children how cows are milked, have them milk the cow into a dish or bucket.

A nice cow related book to read to the children is The Cows are in the Corn by James Young. A good take home activity is the mini poster From the Cow to You. It outlines in pictures and print how the cows are fed, milked, to packaging and seeing the items on the store shelves. If the children cant read their parents can explain it to them. Thursday
Have the children make a food chain using construction paper, have them make a paper chain, paste or staple a drawing of each step in the process that they studied with their parents last night. Pictures could be, sun, hay, cow, milk, and me.

Have them color and arrange the cow mix up print out. This is another math centered sequencing exercise.

Friday
Make your own butter. Use baby food jars or one large jar so the class can take turns shaking the jar, if baby food jars are used put 1/4 cup of heavy cream in each jar, add some salt. Have the children jump and dance with the jars, or pass it around to some music. After 15 minutes the butter should begin to appear. Pour off the buttermilk, and spread the butter on crackers for a snack.

Go over the 3 a day charts you sent the children home with on Monday.

Hand out the parents guide to dairy's role in nutrition so parents can go over it with kids at home, and try some of the snacks ideas over the weekend. You can ask how they liked them on Monday.
